Here’s the chocolate cake that Davey had some much fun with. (hmm I guess I posted about that below.)

Happy Birthday Dazey
First birthday – a little late blogging about it!
I realized that I have not yet scrapped or blogged about Davey's first birthday. We had a great party! Jerry and Janis were kind enough to let us have the party at their house, as it would have been too crowded over here! We had about 20 people over. Davey had a good time. He played in the leaves with Mom, and he enjoyed trying to get involved in the cornhole games going on. He received many great gifts.
We got two cakes: a chocolate cake and a white cake. David was worried that the 1/4 sheet I ordered would not be enough. It probably would not have been so we had a chocolate one made real quick and David picked it up in Arkadelphia. I thought it was odd that the lady helping me order it over the phone was asking me how to spell Davey numerous times – and then I understood why when we got the cake which said "Happy Birthday Dazey". Yes Dazey – it's a common derivative of David – easy mistake to make. 🙂 I will post a picture of that chocolate cake which David attempted to adjust back to "Davey".
We were not going to offer Davey the chance to do the whole squish the cake and stuff it in his mouth thing, but then I picked up a piece of chocolate cake while I was holding him, and before I knew it, he was having a good old time with it!
It was a fun day – the weather could not have been more perfect on a November day. 70s and sunny!
We were happy that Memaw Lucy was there too. And Mama Mutt! We were thankful for all of our guests who came to celebrate Davey!
Books and Diaper Removal
Davey loves his books. Lately he brings us one after another to read to him. He can be a little like me listening to my old 80s music. (I like to start a song, listen to it for about a minute, and then move onto the next one. :)) Usually though he wants to sit through the whole book – tucked nicely in my lap (or in David's). (He is tucked in our lap – not the book. Lazy writing on my part.)
Today we went to McDonald's. He had his first Happy Meal. Well technically I suppose. He probably ate about 1/2 of a chicken nugget. He loved his little Madagascar 2 hippo toy though. He also loved watching two little boys sitting by us. (They were probably 6 and 4 or something close to that.) I was wishing I had a little point and shoot to carry in my purse. I love my Canon – but it's unwieldy to carry around to capture moments like first Happy Meals!
We just got home from Hot Springs and David changed his diaper. He was getting ready to take a nap, so David was letting him run around in his diaper. I guess he figured out how to remove the diaper, because he yanked it right off!

Davey & Opa
A picture of Davey and Opa on Davey's birthday. We all had such a fun day. I need to put more pictures up of that later. But while I am thinking about it, I wanted to blog about Davey's growing vocabulary. I want to remember that at the age of one, he says, "Papa, Pearl (puwl), crackers, key, cookie, Koko (he loves the hard K sound!), Mama, Dada, Dank GUUU (Thank you), Byyeeeeeeeeee Bye (as in the way Jerry and Janis say it to him). He says baba and yesterday tried to say bobbble (bottle with an L).
He moos at the cows, he quacks like a duck. We have a pop up book that involves animals eating each other (gorilla eats vulture, etc.) So instead we just learned the animal sounds. We don't have a clue what a vulture says, but for the purposes of Davey and the book, it says Caw. So Davey says Caw, caw! He says woo like Timber, but he always says it very quietly.
He walks with his hands up in an "I surrender" position. (for balance) But those hands are slowing coming down as he does not need them for balance quite so much.
We have wide window sills here at Mama Pearl's. Yesterday Davey discovered he could climb up on them. He perched up there nicely. Actually, I have a picture of that too that I need to put up.
He Loves Cows. He loves the dogs.

October 21, 2008
We took this photo on Saturday for the 10/18 picture of the week. I have noticed that Davey is not sitting down in any of the last several pictures of the week. It’s not so easy to get that picture anymore!
Yesterday, Davey and I were walking at the park. All of a sudden he started clapping. I have been working on clapping with him for months, but he was not interested. Yesterday out of the blue he just started clapping. And he is Very proud. Everytime he claps, he grins and laughs. It’s a real cute clap as his little fingers are all spread out!
Little Booger!
Davey loves crawling around my scrapping area. He likes to climb onto the tote with the scraps. Given about 20 seconds, he can tear into quite a few of my supplies too.
He had not chewed much on this toothing ring, but he broke it out again the other day. Those front teeth are driving him crazy I think!
