Christmas in Oklahoma

Davey has such tired eyes in this photo, but doesn’t he look like such a little boy?

We had a great trip home. Davey wasn’t too excited about sleeping in a different place the first night, but he adjusted just fine the next day. (We’d gotten in late, and he’d been sleeping for 2 hours in the car – I think he was just a bit disoriented.)

On Christmas Eve he enjoyed dancing to the Christmas carols. He also enjoyed meeting his cousin Caden. Caden is just a month younger than him. Christmas Day was fun – we went to Mom and Papa’s in the morning and then in the afternoon he had a good nap. We saw Kev’s family in the late afternoon which was great – over at Ang and Kelly’s. For dinner we went to Johnny and Sara’s. Davey loved playing with Addie, Deven, and Jaiden. Johnny cooked for us. We decided we only want to eat Johnny food from now. I told him “gosh he could be a chef somewhere”. 🙂 Sara made great desserts too. We were glad that Rob and Angie could make it too!

I will post some more pictures of Christmas.

We came home the day after Christmas. It’s a four hour drive, but it takes us about 6 hours. We have to stop several times with the little boy. He did really well though. He completely melted down – had had enough of his carseat. Luckily we were seriously about 1/2 mile from home when it happened!

I am 41.

Yesterday was my birthday and it was one of my favoritest birthdays.  We stayed home and had a great day.  David made a cake.  Red velvet with cream cheese icing.  He worked very hard on it and followed the directions on the box to the letter.  He even had to go borrow a toothpick from Janis because we didn't have any, and that is what the box required for checking the doneness of the cake.

I wanted to put 41 candles on the cake in order to have a real inferno but David didn't think the cake could withstand the heat or multiple candle punctures. Jerry and Janis came over and had cake with us.  Davey also ate cake.  I let him go nuts with his slice, and he did not disappoint.  He was covered with red cake – probably not the best type of cake to make a mess with, but it all came out and off.

This and That

I am trying to remember to record the little fun things that Davey says or does.  For example sometimes Davey will wake up around 6am and we will bring him to bed with us.  Occasionally he will go to sleep, but mostly he likes to climb around.  Sometimes though I will fall back asleep, and I am told that I sometimes – rarely I am sure – snore.  David says that Davey will try to make snoring noises too and it makes Davey laugh.  (I am glad someone finds snoring amusing!)

Last night he went to bed, but then was awake because we realized he had a poopy diaper.  David got him up and said that he had a poopy.  Davey said "poopy"  "poopy".  It was the first time he'd said it, and it just sounded so cute.  Who knew "poopy" could sound so sweet?

Here's a goofy family picture.  My eye is doing something droopy and strange and David wasn't thrilled with his hair, but I love how Davey is looking out of the corner of his eye over at David.

Sunday morning

Davey had a big day yesterday.  We went to Ft Smith to visit "Mama Jane".  She is Janis's sister (our neighbor/cousin).  She used to work in a gift shop so she accumulated a lot of Christmas decorations over the years, so she wanted us to come see her house and have lunch.  She did have lots of beautiful decorations!  She lives in Ft Smith with her husband Pete (Papa Pete), grandson, Chase, and their pug Dixie and dachsund Dolly.  She made us gumbo, slaw and meat pies.  I never had a meat pie before – it was like a fried pie but with meat in it, and I have to say it was delicious!

Her son and daughter in law came over with their kids. They have two teenagers and the teenagers had some friends over.  Those teenagers were all so sweet to Davey.  They played with him all afternoon.  They walked around the backyard with him at Jane's and then we went over to Jane's son's house for a little while. Jane's son's family lives right outside Ft Smith.  They have two horses:  Lady and Max.  Max is a miniature horse, and he is about the sweetest animal I have ever seen in my whole life.  Lady was a beautiful black horse.  Davey enjoyed seeing them.  Then he played inside with the teenagers. They put him on their laps and he played the drums.  It was a BIG day for Davey.

Sesame Street

We are not watching much TV yet, but for maybe 20 minutes or so we will sit down and watch some Sesame Street. I got a couple of videos from Netflix and they are Sesame Street Songs. Currently Davey loves “Do the Duck” as sung by Ernie and friends. He also likes “Operatic Lullaby” as sung by Denyce Graves and a large muppet ensemble to Elmo as he tries to go to sleep. David and I like “Between” sung by Wayne Brady. I think we like that one more that Davey does. 🙂

Davey has been getting a lot of wear out of this red vest. Michael and Holly sent it to him for his birthday. I love it. It’s perfect for carseat wear. Here I took a picture of Davey enjoying some “snacks” and “ahhhhhh”. He says a word that is across between snacks, and nax. We are still having a bit of a time trying to get him to drink out of his sippy cup. When we can get him to drink from his cup, he will often take a big drink and then let out a big “AHHHHHHHHHHH”. Apparently Daddy does this frequently after taking a drink – (I guess I don’t even notice this anymore after more than 20 years. :)), and Davey picked right up on it!
